general of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism
Department said that 104 ancient forts have been
identified throughout Sistan-Baluchistan province.
Hassan Sargazi told IRNA that out of this, 38
forts have been registered as national heritage
sites.
“Saravan ranks first with 25 forts, while Sarbaz
and Khash have the least,“ he noted, adding that
Zabol, Chabahar, Iranshahr, Nikshahr and Zahedan
have 14, 17, 18, 14 and six forts respectively.
The antiquity of the historical forts range from
the Achaemenid to the Sassanid eras,“ he pointed
out.
Sargazi further stated that out of 780 historical
monuments, which have so far been identified in
the province, 173 monuments have been registered
on the national heritage list.
He hoped that more than 10,000 monuments will be
identified in Sistan-Baluchistan province until
the end of the fourth five-year development plan.
