Abyianeh Registration Process Will Be Complete by March

10 September 2005

The process of registering the ancient village of Abianeh, near Kashan, Isfahan province, on UNESCO’s Global Heritage List will be completed by the end of the current Iranian year in March, reported CHN quoting officials of Abianeh Cultural Heritage and Tourism Department.

Head of the department’s research base, Azimeh Riahi, said that Abianeh was registered on the National Heritage List in 1975 and it had been protected from plunderers, saying many parts of the village have retained the age-old lifestyle.

She pointed out that Abianeh was registered on the national list without reference to its historical and cultural landscape. However, officials intend to register it in the Global Heritage List by including the natural and historical landscape as well as its future plans.

Parts of the village including mosques, water storages and praying areas have been restored.

Also, parts of the houses have been reconstructed in cooperation with the people and plans are at hand to reconstruct some other sections.
Abianeh has numerous historical and tourism attractions. It is world-renowned for its red-colored houses. Many tourists from home and abroad visit the site which is among Iran’s unique cultural structures.
