6,000-Years-Old Hill Sold to be Pillaged

06 May 2006

LONDON, (CAIS - Edited by Shapour Suren-Pahlav) -- Soil from the historical Tal Qareh (Qareh Hill) in Koushk-e Hezar village of Sepidan, Fars province, has been sold to local orchard owners since a year ago.

The hill encompasses stratigraphic layers dating back to 4th and 3rd millenniums BCE.

The historic Tal Qareh has been neither excavated nor registered in the National Heritage List.

The ancient hill is known among locals as a pottery workshop due to the large number of pottery fragments mixed with the soil; however, potsherds found in the hill confirm that belong to prehistoric times.

Since one year ago, the current owner who has close ties with the Islamic Regime claiming to be owners of the hill have sold about half of the hill’s soil to garden owners.
